[EBV cell surface antigen] This term refers to an antigen identified on the surfaces of cells transformed by Epstein-Barr Virus (Kintner and Sugden, 1981). Sugden and Metzenberg (1983) have termed the five monoclonal antibody clones recognizing EBVCS EBVCS1, EBVCS2, EBVCS3, EBVCS4, EBVCS5. These monoclonal antibodies have been shown to recognize CD23 (Gordon et al, 1987).
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD23.
