abbr. Hf [Helical factor] (Dmel/Hf). This factor, encoded by gene CG10658, has been identified in searches for helical cytokines (Malagoli et al, 2007). Its expression in hemocytes is dependent on the Imd pathway (Malagoli et al, 2008). Malagoli et al (2012) have reported that Drosophila Helical factor is an inducible cytokine constitutively produced by the S2 hemocyte-derived cell line. The protein is involved in Drosophila (innate) immunity. Expression is stimulated by bacterial extracts that specifically trigger the imd pathway.
