[death inducing vBCL2/Apaf1 binding protein] Diva is a member of the BCL2 family of proteins. Diva mRNA is expressed in multiple embryonic murine tissues. In adult mice expression appears to be restricted to the ovary and testis. Diva is a regulator of apoptosis. The expression of Diva promotes the death of various cell lines and of primary sensory neurons.
Diva has been shown to interact with a viral BCL2 homolog encoded by the Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (see: KSHV). Diva also interacts with APAF-1, an adapter molecule that activates caspase-9, and inhibits binding of BCLxL to APAF-1
