[Dahlgren cell]
this cell type (Dahlgren 1914; Speidel, 1922) constitutes a population of neurosecretory cells dispersed in the caudal neurosecretory system of various fish species. Dahlgren cells are magnocellular neurons located in the ventral part of the posterior spinal cord (Dahlgren 1914), which project their axons into a neurohemal organ, the urophysis (Fridberg and Bern, 1968).
These caudal neurosecretory cells have been shown to synthesize both urotensin-1 and urotensin-2 (Ichikawa et al, 1988) and represent the major source of these peptides (McCrohan et al, 2007). Parmentier et al (2008) have reported that in zebrafish urotensin-1,
