[downregulated by oncogenes 1] This gene (gene symbol: CCDC80 [coiled-coil domain containing 80]) has been identified by Bommer et al (2005). Its expression is decreased markedly in rat RK3E epithelial cells neoplastically transformed by beta-catenin and a variety of other oncogenes.
DRO1 expression is very reduced in colon and pancreatic cancer cell lines and in most colorectal cancer specimens. Ectopic expression of DRO1 in cancer cell lines lacking endogenous DRO1 expression substantially inhibits growth properties. DRO1 suppresses anchorage-independent growth and sensitizes cells to anoikis and cell death by apoptosis
