[deleted in liver cancer 1] The cDNA for this gene has been identified by Yuan et al (1998). For a related gene see DLC2. In databanks the protein is known also as STARD12 [START domain-containing protein 13; StAR-related lipid transfer protein 12]. The protein contains a RhoGAP domain (hence the designation START-GAP1).
Yuan et al (2003) have reported loss of heterozygosity in 7/16 primary hepatocellular carcinomas and 10/11 hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines, expression of DLC1 mRNA in all normal human tissues, and non-expression in 4/14 hepatocellular carcinoma
