[death ligand signal enhancer] This protein has been identified by Harada et al (2010). The cDNA encoding DELE has been identified independently as KIAA0141. The approved gene symbol for this protein is DELE1 [DAP3 binding cell death enhancer 1].
Harada et al (2010) have reported that the sensitivity of cells to apoptosis induced by TRAIL or TNF-alpha is increased by overexpression of DELE. Knock-down of DELE expression has been shown to inhibit HeLa cell sensitivity to TRAIL and to reduce the proteolytic activation of the three caspases Caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9.
