[Death associated protein 5] The gene encoding this protein was identified together with others (see: DAP-1, DAP-3) by screening cell populations transfected with an antisense cDNA library for their ability to survive in the continuous presence of IFN-gamma (Kissil and Kimchi, 1998).
DAP-5 (Levy-Strumpf et al, 1997) is known also as p97 (Imataka et al, 1997) and NAT1 (Yamanaka et al, 1997). DAP-5 is a protein of 97 kDa that is highly homologous to the eIF4G (p220) translation initiation factor but lacks the eIF4E binding site. The protein has been isolated as eIF4-gamma-2 (Shaughnessy et al, 1997). DAP-5 functions as a mediator of cell death
