[defender against apoptotic death; defender against cell death; defender against cell death 1] The gene encoding this protein has been identified by Nakashima et al (1993). The encoded protein rescues a temperature-sensitive mutant cell line that dies by apoptosis at the nonpermissive temperature and cannot be rescued by the apoptosis inhibitor protein BCL2.
