[Drosophila GADD45] This protein, encoded by gene CG11086, is considered the sole Drosophila melanogaster ortholog of the three mammalian gadd45 [growth arrest and DNA damage induced gene-45] proteins. Unlike the mammalian three orthologs, D-GADD45 expression is not elevated following exposure to genotoxic and nongenotoxic agents in Schneider cells and in adult flies. Its transcript increases following immune response activation. Overexpression of D-GADD45 in various tissues leads to different phenotypic responses. Specifically, in the somatic follicle cells overexpression causes cell death by apoptosis
