[growth arrest and DNA damage induced gene-45] This hamster gene has been identified originally as one member of the family of GADD genes the expression of which is induced by various genotoxic and non-genotoxic stresses.
The cDNAs for 3 related proteins, gadd45-alpha (abbr. gadd45A), gadd45-beta (abbr. gadd45B), and gadd45-gamma (abbr. gadd45G) have been isolated by Takekawa et al (1998). The human protein (gadd45-alpha; 165 amino acids) shows 96 % identity with the hamster protein (Carrier et al, 1994).
