abbr. CYPA. Abbr. also CYPH. Cyclophilin A is a high-affinity cytosolic binding protein for the immunosuppressant agent cyclosporin A. Studies with knock-out mice, which are resistant to immunosuppression by cyclosporin A, show that cyclophilin A is the primary mediator of immunosuppression by cyclosporin A (Colgan et al, 2005).
The human cDNA has been cloned by Liu et al (1990). This protein is known also as Cyclosporin A binding protein. Takahashi et al (1989) have shown that cyclophilin A is Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase, an enzyme that accelerates the cis-trans isomerization of prolyl-peptide bonds.
