Cryptic

Also: Cryptic family protein 1. The gene symbol for the human counterpart of Cryptic is CFC1 [cripto FRL1 cryptic family 1].

This murine secreted protein is related to the growth factors Cripto and Xenopus laevis FRL1 and all three factors have been referred to as the CFC family. Cryptic is expressed during gastrulation in the axial and lateral mesoderm and also in the midline neuroectoderm. Expression of Cryptic ceases at the end of gastrulation, and is not observed in later embryonic stages or in adult tissues (Shen et al, 1997).
