CeKal-1

[Caenorhabditis elegans Kallmann syndrome protein 1] this term refers to the Caenorhabditis elegans ortholog of vertebrate Anosmin-1. The expression of CeKal-1 in the nematode is detectable in a subset of neuroblasts during embryogenesis (Rugarli et al, 2002).

The protein is 30 % identical and 50 % similar to human anosmin-1 and has been reported to be involved in epidermal morphogenesis and neurite branching. CeKal-1 is part of a mechanism by which neurons influence migration and adhesion of epidermal cells undergoing morphogenesis during ventral enclosure and male tail formation.
