(approved gene symbol) [cation transport regulator homolog 1] The protein is being referred to also as ChaC [cation transport regulator-like 1], which is one of the E coli operons functioning as Ca2+/ H+ antiporters, and gamma-GCT acting on glutathione homolog 1. The yeast homolog of CHAC1, termed YER163c, has been identified as a mRNA the expression of which is induced by activation of the unfolded protein response pathway (Travers et al, 2000).
Mungrue et al (2009) have identified CHAC1 as one of the genes in a complex network of genes activated during the unfolded protein response pathway. Its expression is induced by by chemical unfolded protein response inducers, but not other cell stressors. Overexpression of CHAC1 enhances
