The antigen is expressed on B-cells and plasma cells (Hashimoto et al, 1994). It is part of the B-cell antigen receptor.

cDNAs for CD79b have been cloned by Wood et al (1993) and Hashimoto et al (1993). Hashimoto et al (1994) have determined the complete genomic sequence.
