Other designations are CD44s, CD44st, and CD44std (for "standard"). This abbreviation refers to the standard form of the CD antigen CD44, i.e., one that contains no additional alternatively spliced exons. The 'H' stands for 'hematopoietic' as this standard form is expressed in hematopoietic cells. Note that all exons of CD44 found in the standard form are also contained in CD44v variant forms.
