[CD20-like-5]. This protein shows homology with CD20 and is a member of a large family of proteins showing sequence homology with CD20 (Liang Y and Tedder, 2001). The protein is being referred to also as MS4A8A [Membrane-spanning 4-domains subfamily A member 8A], which is also the approved gene symbol. It is thought that these proteins are components of oligomeric cell surface complexes that serve diverse signal transduction functions.
Schmieder et al (2011) have reported expression of MS4A8A in tumor-associated macrophages in mammary carcinoma and malignant melanoma. In vitro, the expression of MS4A8A is induced strongly in bone marrow-derived macrophages by combining IL4
