abbr. C3bc. This factor is a C-terminal fragment of the beta-chain of rat complement factor C3 and has been isolated from the exudate of the chronic phase of rat carrageenin induced inflammation (Nakagawa and Komorita 1993).
C3-beta-c induces chemotaxis of neutrophils in vivo after injection into the preformed air-pouch on the back of rats. C3-beta-c transiently increases the intracellular free calcium ion concentration of neutrophils and enhances their adhesion to fibrinogen in vitro. At low concentrations (10**-10 to 10**-11 M) the factor stimulates rat macrophages to produce CINC-2-alpha
