Beta-Netrin

Beta-Netrin is homologous to the aminoterminus of laminin chain short arms and, unlike other Netrins, more related to the laminin beta chains (Koch et al, 2001). The protein is known also as Hetrin, which is a splice variant of Beta-Netrin (Zhang et al), or hepar-derived netrin-like protein (Zhang et al, 2004). The new designation is Netrin-4, and the approved gene symbol is NTN4.

High expression is observed in kidney, heart, ovary, retina, and the olfactory bulb. Beta-Netrin is a component of the basement membranes (see also: extracellular matrix) of the vasculature, kidney, and ovaries. It is expressed also in a limited set of fiber tracts within the brain.
