[B-cell early response gene encoding a 36-kD protein] Berg36 has been identified as a protein that is expressed when Ramos B-cells undergo cell death by apoptosis in response to treatment with calcium ionophore (Ning et al, 1996). Antisense blockade of Berg36 expression or treatment with IL4 partially inhibits apoptosis. The protein has been shown to be the same as BRF1 [Butyrate response factor 1], which is involved in degradation of short-lived RNAs.
