[binding protein] General name for proteins that bind ligands through non-covalent interactions. Many binding proteins bind other proteins.
Some binding proteins that are important for research on cytokines circulate in the serum and bind cytokines. In many instances cytokines that are bound to such carrier proteins are biologically inactive or do not exert their full biological activity.
