The BOW blood group (Bowyer antigen; Bow antigen), first described by Chaves et al (1988) is a low-incidence erythrocyte antigen residing on SLC4A1 [solute carrier family 4 member 1] (CD233) (McManus et al, 2000) and thus has been assigned to the Diego blood group system. Jarolim et al (1998) have reported that BOW involves the mutation at position 561 Pro>Ser.
