[bovine myeloid antimicrobial peptide-28] BMAP-28 (GGLRSLGRKILRAWKKYGPIIVPIIRIG) has been identified by Skerlavaj et al (1996). BMAP-27 corresponds to the 27 C-terminal amino acids of a bovine congener of one of the antimicrobial cathelicidins identified in several mammalian species. It acts as a defense peptide that shows potent antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and fungi.
