[Beta-glucan receptor] This receptor is a type 2 transmembrane receptor with a single extracellular carbohydrate recognition domain and an ITAM motif in its cytoplasmic tail (Willment et al, 2001). Human BGR is expressed widely and functions as a pattern recognition receptor that recognizes a variety of beta-1,3-d-Glucans and beta-1,6-d-Glucans, glucose polymers found in the cell walls of plants, fungi, and bacteria that are considered to function as pathogen-associated molecular patterns.
