A human member of the BCL2 protein family that has been isolated from a human fetal liver. BFL-1 (175 amino acids) is a homolog murine A1 (72 % amino acid identity); abbr. and approved gene symbol BCL2A1 [BCL2-related protein A1] (see also: A1). The gene has been identified independently as GRS. Another designation for this gene is BCL2-like-5 (BCL2L5).
