abbr. BCL2L12. This protein (334 amino acids) is known also as bpr [BCL2-related proline-rich protein] (Scorilas et al, 2001). This protein is a member of the BCL2 protein family that regulate apoptosis. The protein (334 amino acids) contains one BH2 homology domain and is expressed constitutively in a variety of tissues. A splice variant of the protein is expressed primarily in skeletal muscle (Scorilas et al, 2001).
BCL2-like-12 is overexpressed in nearly all cases of primary glioblastoma multiforme (Stegh et al, 2007) and contributes to resistance towards chemotherapy-induced apoptosis and enhanced necrosis by its ability to block post-mitochondrial apoptosis
