BARD1

[BRCA1-associated RING domain protein] BARD1 is a nuclear protein that dimerizes with another protein, BRCA1, and plays important roles in cellular response to DNA damage. This complex has the activity of a ubiquitin ligase, whereas individually BRCA1 and BARD1 have very low ubiquitin ligase activities in vitro (Hashizume et al, 2001; Xia et al, 2003). The BRCA1/BARD1 heterodimer directs polymerization of ubiquitin primarily through an unconventional linkage involving lysine residue K6 (Wu-Baer et al, 2003. These polyubiquitin chains are deubiquitinated by 26S proteasome in vitro (Nishikawa et al, 2004).

BARD1 undergoes phosphorylation upon ionizing radiation or UV radiation. DNA ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
