[B-cell, B-cell derived]
These cells (called also B-lymphocytes, or generally antibody-producing cells; see also: B-2 cells (B-2 B-cells)) are among the most abundant types of white blood cells (lymphocytes). Lymphocytes immunophenotyped as CD19(+) lymphocytes are B-cells. CD19 is the most broadly used B-cell marker for flow-cytometric immunophenotyping of lymphocytes (see: Comans-Bitter et al, 1997, for example). It appears early and remains on the B-cell until it differentiates into a plasma cell. Additional markers can be used to distinguish between different levels of maturation in these cell populations.
