abbr. BMF (a term with multiple meanings). Generic name given to factors that promote the maturation of resting B-cells into Ig-secreting cells without having an effect on cell proliferation.
Differentiation (or terminal differentiation) of B-cells is the process leading to antibody secretion. The differentiation process is divided often into an induction phase, when class switching, i.e., expression of a different class of membrane-bound immunoglobulins occurs, and maturation in which the soluble form of this immunoglobulin is secreted by the cell.
BMFs induce the pre-B-like-60Z/3 tumor cell line to express complete Ig molecules on the cell surface, and cause the mature B-cell
