[apolipoprotein L9b] Kreit et al (2014) have reported that mouse ApoL9b, which has an intracytoplasmic localisation, is an antiviral interferon-stimulated gene active against Theiler’s murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV or Theiler’s virus). Weak expression of Apol9 in mouse primary neurons treated with type 1 interferons contributes to the surprising susceptibility of these cells to virus infection (For a highly related protein with similar activity see: Apol9a).
