Amida (so named after a Buddhist god believed to ensure a comfortable death) is expressed ubiquitously and most highly in the brain. Brambillasca et al (1999) have referred to the same gene as FB1 and identified it by virtue of its fusion with transcription factor TCF3 in some cases of pediatric pre-B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The approved gene symbol for the gene is TFPT [TCF3 fusion partner; transcription factor 3 fusion partner].
Amida contains two nuclear localization sequences and interacts with Arc (activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein). Overexpression of Amida causes cell death by apoptosis and may modulate cell death
