[Autocrine serum replacing activity] This biochemically uncharacterized factor of approximately 60 kDa is found in the conditioned medium of confluent murine hematopoietic FDCP1 cells. It is produced also by human skin fibroblasts.

ASRA permits the serum-free survival of FDCP1 cells (see also: autocrine) even at low density and allows fibroblasts to grow in serum-free medium (see also: SFM) in the absence of EGF. The factor is not identical with EGF.
