AIFL

[AIF-like; apoptosis inducing factor-like] This human protein (598 amino acids) is related to PDCD8 (programmed cell death-8) (AIF, apoptosis inducing factor) (Xie et al, 2005). The approved gene symbol is AIFM3 [apoptosis inducing factor mitochondrion associated 3; mitochondrion associated apoptosis inducing factor-3].

The AIFL protein is expressed widely in all tissues tested. AIFL is localized predominantly to mitochondria. Overexpression of AIFL induces cell death by apoptosis, which can be blocked by an inhibitor of caspases, zVAD-fmk.
