[a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain 35; ADAM metallopeptidase domain 35] This chicken protein is a member of the ADAM protein family and has been identified by Watanabe-Uchida et al (2004), who named it Meltrin-epsilon. The protease is involved in muscle development. The protein is expressed specifically in the myotomal cells, which delaminate from the dermomyotome to form epithelial sheets. It is found also in the surface ectoderm, lens placodes, otic vesicles, and the gut epithelia and may play a role in the organization of the epithelial tissues and development of the sensory organs and the gut.
