A2B5 is a cell surface antigen identified by a monoclonal antibody of the same name (Schnitzler and Schachner, 1982). The antibody recognizes a sialoganglioside/sulfatide epitope on various neuronal and glial subtypes. The antibody detects c-series ganglioside epitopes (GQ1c; GT3, GT1c) (Kasai and Yuk, 1983; Saito et al, 2001).
A2B5 is considered a stem cell marker and has been used to identify neuronal progenitor cells and glial progenitor cells (Maric et al, 2003). It detects O-2A cells (Behar et al, 1988; Represa et al, 1993; Rivkin et al, 1995; Scolding et al, 1999; Barres et al, 1992).
