A murine hybridoma cell line formed by fusion of the mouse myeloma cell line Sp2/0-Ag14 with spleen cells from a C57BL/6 mouse immunized with Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharides three days before fusion.
The cell line is dependent on IL6 for its growth (see also: Factor-dependent cell lines) and factor withdrawal leads to cell death by apoptosis.
The cell line is used to assay IL6 activities (see also: bioassays, cytokine assays and HGF, hybridoma growth factor).
