These cells (often just referred to as F442A cells) are one of several cloned cell lines established from disaggregated Swiss mouse embryos that are capable of differentiating into cells resembling adipocytes (Green and Kehinde, 1976). The cells have the morphology of fibroblasts. When the cells reach confluence they spontaneously arrest growth and can be induced to differentiate into white adipocytes in vitro.
