Kobayashi et al (1990) have reported that chicken 32 kDa calcimedin, a calcium binding protein, is a member of the calpactin / lipocortin family. The protein displays phospholipase A2 inhibitory activity, Ca2(+)-dependent F-actin binding activity, and phospholipid binding activity. The protein is recognized by antibodies directed against endonexin-2, but not by antibodies against lipocortin-1 and lipocortin-1, 35 kDa calcimedin, and 67 kDa calcimedin. Comparisons between the amino acid sequences of 32 kDa calcimedin and endonexin-2 show a high degree of conservation.
