24p3 (also: SV40-induced 24P3 protein) is a protein of unknown function that is expressed in confluent primary mouse kidney cell cultures arrested in the G0 phase of the cell cycle and infected with SV40 or Polyoma virus (Hraba-Renevey et al, 1989). Flower et al (1991) have identified 24p3 protein as a member of the lipocalin family of proteins.
24p3 expression has been shown to be induced by IL3 deprivation in primary bone marrow cells and several factor-dependent cell lines requiring IL3 as survival factor, and is able to induce cell death by apoptosis of a variety of leukocytes but not other
