18A2

18A2 is a mRNA identified by Jackson-Grusby et al (1987) that increases in abundance after serum stimulation of quiescent mouse fibroblasts. 18A2 encodes a predicted polypeptide of 101 amino acids with homology to known calcium-binding proteins. Highest levels of 18A2 mRNA are found in the non-pregnant uterus and in the placenta. The concentration of 18A2 mRNA in total placental RNA decreases from day 8 to day 10 of pregnancy, and is below detection throughout the latter half of gestation.

Parker et al (1994) have reported that 18A2 protein promotes tubulin depolymerization, sequesters the p53 phosphoprotein, and induces cells to enter the S phase of the cell cycle.

18A2 is a member of the S100 protein family ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
