This cell line was derived from a Th1-like human lymphoma cell line (Jurkat E6-1) after introduction of the porcine IL12 beta-2 receptor gene (Kokuho et al, 2003). The cells constitutively express chimeric IL12 receptors composed of intrinsic (human) beta1 and extrinsic (porcine) beta-2 subunits. They produce IFN-gamma in response to human and porcine IL12, which appears to be dose-dependent within the range between 20 and 2000 pg/mL. Thus, these cells can be used in bioassays of IL12 from both species.
