This targeting peptide with the sequence VRRADNRPG has been identified by phage display library screening in a search for an endometriosis targeting peptide. The peptide also acts as a cell-penetrating peptide that is internalized by cells (Sugihara et al, 2014). The peptide binds to Ishikawa cells with very high efficiency and to human endometrial cells. It binds to endometrial adenocarcinoma SNG-II, RL95-2 and Hec1A cells but not to skin epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells, prostate cancer PC3, or cervical cancer HeLa cells.
