[water-clear cell]
[wasserhelle cells; from the German 'wasserhell', 'clear as water'] This cell type of unknown function is seen in some parathyroids. Their numbers increase in hyperplastic states. Water-clear cells probably represent chief cells of the parathyroid gland that develop after long-term overstimulation (Harcourt-Webster and Truman, 1969).
