These cells are defined by their tissue of origin (spleen). It is a rather vague term for lymphoid cells obtained from this tissue and may refer to T-cells, B-cells, NK-cells, NKT-cells, large mononuclear phagocytes (see also: mononuclear cells), macrophages and monocytes, or distinct subpopulations thereof, which are characterized by the expression of cell surface or other markers.
