c-sis is a cellular oncogene that is the cellular homolog of the viral v-sis oncogene of simian sarcoma virus (SSV) derived from the wooly monkey. The human gene maps to chromosome 22q12.3- 22q13.1. It extends over a region of approximately 12 kb, including 1.2 kb of v-sis-related sequences interrupted by four intervening sequences. The c-sis gene closely resembles the gene encoding PDGF-B (platelet-derived growth factor, B-chain). The sis protein and PDGF are considered homologous.
