shifted

abbr. shf, encoded by gene CG3135. This is the Drosophila melanogaster ortholog of WIF-1 [Wnt-inhibitory factor-1] (Gorfinkiel et al, 2005). It is being referred to also as WIF-1-like protein. Shifted is a secreted protein that acts as a modulator of Hedgehog signaling in the developing wing imaginal disc. Unlike mammalian Wnt-1, shifted does not bind to extracellular Wnt proteins and inhibit their activity (Glise et al, 2005).
