This antimicrobial peptide from the Chinese softshell turtle, Pelodiscus sinensis, with the sequence KKSCHTGLDRSAGWVIPIGTLVKKAILPWDRK is active against Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae, Bacillus megaterium, and Bacillus pumilus. The peptide shows 71.9 % similarity to cOT2 and is derived from ovotransferrin, a form of hen transferrin found in the oviducts that has a bacteriostatic function and is not controlled by iron levels.
