abbr. RPL30 [50S ribosomal protein L30] This ribosomal subunit of the 50S ribosome has been isolated as a secreted protein from the lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus salivarius. The protein shows activity as an antimicrobial peptide and is active against Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus uberis and Enterococcus faecium. The protein is bactericidal against Streptococcus pyogenes and maintains its antimicrobial activity after different protease treatments, at acidic pH, after heat treatment, or storage in at at least at 4°C.
For other proteins (or fragments thereof) with at least one additional activity that differs from the established 'classical' activity of the parent protein see also: Dual identity proteins and Cryptides MiniCOPE Dictionary.
