[rhogocyte]
This cell type, called also pore cells or ovoid cells, is found in various mollusks. These cells are scattered throughout the connective tissues of diverse body parts. Albrecht et al (2001) have reported that these cells synthesize hemocyanin. Rhogocytes also participate in metal mobilization, accumulation, and release (Marigómez et al, 2002; Chabicovsky et al, 2003; Dallinger et al, 2005) and are involved in ultrafiltration (Fahrner and Haszprunar, 2002). Beuerlein K et al (2002) have reported that rhogocytes ingest particles of various sizes by endocytosis and phagocytosis.
